On the 97-02 ,model e-class do the key remote suppose to only pick up when two feet away from the car.

My car only picks up the key remote when I'm 2 feet away....I've replaced the batteries in the remote...but it still doesn't give good signal....
uh did you read all of it...I said I've changed the battery.....

The remotes and start system changed in 00, definately in 01 to the "smart key" that uses two sensors both infrared and RF to unlock the car and that definately works at 25 or so, The ignition is unlocked via inductive energy via the key collar and communicates via a redundant network to the DAS of the car. I have no idea what else you are taling about.
