I know the 330i/ci is faster than the mercedes, but which would cost less in the long run in terms of reliability and maintenance and repairs?

Also which would you prefer for an 18 year old guy? I am buying a car for college. Please do not tell me about insurance I already have it worked out so I am listed as driving my mom's car.
