Hi,

My T-Reg/1999 Mercedes A-140 has suddenly developed a low continuous noise. The noise is not audible when seated but when I get out of the car, the noise is quite audible. I opened the bonnet and it is coming from the bottom right end of the engine (in front of passenger seat). The noise is there even when the engine is switched off and the car is locked.

Any pointers would be really appreciated.

Found out today that it is the Power Steering pump, whose motor is still runs when the engine is off. When I take the power steering pump fuse from the battery, the noise disappears. And yeah, the overnight running of pump caused my battery to go flat.
