I'm considering buying a Mercedes A Class and I was wondering if anyone would recommend it?
It seems like a fairly good and reliable car.
Many thanks

It seems like a fairly good and reliable car. Many thanks BLUETHUNDER 04-17-2010, 10:27 PM Ive had a A140 Classic for the last 5 years. The trick is to buy a good one to start with. There are a lot of ropey abused examples around. They are cheap to run and cheap to insure. My one has proved to have been very reliable over the last 5 years. There are a few weak points on the A-class. They have a tendancy to break springs. Dont be too alarmed. They dont tend to break in half. But normally break at the very end of the coil. You wil know when one as broken as you will hear it. A cheap and easy fix. Springs can be obtained from eurocar parts. Which happen to be better than the factory originals. The other weak point is rear suspension arm bushes. You can tell when these are gone. Look at the car from the rear. if the rear wheels at the top tuck in towards the wheel arches, then they will need replacing. Another cheap fix. The only cars to avoid are the semi-autos. They have a weak box,and tend to go wrong on a regular basis. Over a £1000 to repair. Stick with a manual. Overall a really practical car with loads of space inside and comfortable to drive. I would definitley have another one. Good luck with your search. |
