From a mechanic who know about these cars or from an owner, I'm just looking to see whether it has regular mechanical problems, things like that, and if it's an overall good suv to get.

View Full Version : Do you personally find the 2002-2003 Mercedes G500 to be a reliable car? If you're serious get one built in 2004 or later. Jace 06-02-2010, 04:25 PM I've worked for Mercedes Benz for several years. The G-Wagon is garbage. Especially ones from earlier years. Tons of electrical issues, and the door latches like to jam on those so the door doesn't shut without a hassle. That one more than any other model has the door sensors fail, so the dash with always tell you your door is open, even though it isn't. Extremely pricey and frequent repairs. It's more reliable than a Land Rover, but that isn't the vehicle you want to buy for the purpose of needing a reliable vehicle. Jorden 06-04-2010, 11:35 AM Mechanically the car is built like tank and i really mean it. It will go through the wall and it won't even slow down. The original desing comes from company named Puch and it's an extremely robust allroad vehicle.2002-2003 will have most of the electronics transplanted from the then-current C-Class (W203 series) and this is where most of the gizmos will come from, nothing scary though if the car was well maintained and not subjected to collision damage. The engine and the gearbox are one of most reliable designs ever made by Benz, mostly because of their simplicity ("no replacement for displacement"). |
