My Benz has an automatic transmission with just 14,000 miles on it... When I start up the engine in the morning and head to work, the first couple of upshifts happen a little late. Usually the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd to 3rd gear at 2000rpm, but in the morning, going from 1st to 2nd to 3rd happens at 2500-3000rpm. It makes me think the tranny is slipping, but if it does, shouldn't that happen always? After the first two upshifts, it shifts smooth like butter for the rest of the trip. Then after work, it happens again when I start it up to drive home.

Could it be the tranny oil level? MB says the tranny's oil can last for 100k miles (though I'm planning to change it out at 30k). Any thoughts would help a lot -- thanks!
Thank you for all your replies -- I haven't checked the tranny fluid yet (MB requires you buy a dipstick -- sheesh), but I will do so. It is definitely not shifting out of gear. When it shifts to a certain gear, it sticks there. As far as taking a few minutes to shift, that does not happen at all. It just shifts at a higher than usual RPM.

As for the filter in moreconffeeinfo's reply, I changed out the air filter recently as well as the MAS sensor. Supposedly, the MAS sensor is a common problem on these cars. I'm not sure what a modulator valve is, but I'll be sure to look into that.

I also want to thank 70xbody's reply. I will also check on this -- I had no idea these cars would do that.

Thanks again!
