View Full Version : is the mclaren mercedes formula 1 team of italianspanish origin? sqeaky 11-03-2008, 07:22 PM Mclaren in latin italian is a common name =delaurentis Mercedes is a very common spanish woman name NMN 11-03-2008, 08:00 PM Vodafone Mclaren Mercedes F1 team is based in Woking, Surrey, UK ... its not of an intalian-spanish origin, but Mclaren was founded by a New Zealander Bruce Mclaren.. boy from bali 11-03-2008, 09:31 PM Might be some truth in what you say, a Spanish woman called Alonso thought they owned the team for a while. Robert Abuse 11-03-2008, 09:47 PM No McLaren Mercedes is a British team, based in Woking, you would have noticed that after a very quick `Google` indeed. It was named after their sadly departed founder Bruce McLaren who was a New Zealander. The name McLaren, as I am sure you know, is of Scottish or Irish origin. In Italy I have never met, seen or heard of anyone with the name McLaren. DeLaurentis, yes, McLaren no. As for Mercedes it was named in honour of a little girl, but even that issue is shrouded by the fog of mystery and legend. f1angel 11-03-2008, 10:37 PM No. Mercedes is a German company and Mclaren is based in Woking, England! The Mclaren Mercedes team is a British team! SMC39 11-03-2008, 10:38 PM Just what the others have said. Bruce McLaren started the team so McLaren has always stayed as the name of the F1 car. Mercedes Benz supplies engines and other technical support - as well as financial - to the team based Woking, England. They did have a Spanish driver in 2007 named Fernando Alonso. He left the team after one season. They still have a Spanish test driver named Pedro de la Rosa that speaks 6 different languages. The McLaren team is now an Anglo-German outfit with Mercedes Benz buying more and more of the team as time goes by. Their primary sponsor is Vodafone. They were disqualified from the 2007 F1 Championship for having private Ferrari F1 documents showing design details and secrets for the 2007 Ferrari. |
